Jobsbank has collaborated with Swinburne University of Technology on a new piece of research to evaluate how Social Procurement is transforming industries and the barriers which need to be overcome in order to embed social procurement across the board.
This report highlights the growing adoption of social procurement, the strengths of Victoria’s Social Procurement Framework (SPF) while also revealing areas for growth.
Positive perceptions:
- From a general population survey of 540 Victorians, regarding their perceptions about the benefits of social procurement, 56% of those surveyed think that Social procurement would create “a better local economy”.
- 51% of people, from a general population survey, would be willing to pay a premium for products or services from organisations with good SP initiatives.
Areas that can be improved:
- Too many concepts, terms, and definitions muddy the waters.
- Businesses that take a tick the box approach doesn’t make systemic or cultural change.
Key Recommendation:
- Tapping into the depth of knowledge and current expertise in social procurement and diversity will help foster greater understanding and encourage wider adoption among industry players. It will also play a critical role in guiding the future direction of the SPF initiative.
